Factors that may affect your NBN™ connection speed

NBN™ InfrastructureFor example, the length and quality of copper cabling used in NBN™ FTTN/FTTB has a significant impact on performance.
Coexistence period NBN™ FTTN/FTTB services are typically limited during the period they must share the same copper line as legacy non-NBN™ services.
Quality and capability of hardware This can include modems, WiFi routers and Ethernet or phone cables.
WiFi signal interference You can learn how to improve your home or office’s WiFi signal here.
Number of connected devices When too many devices share the same bandwidth, data flow is limited
Network Congestion For example, when speeds slow during peak traffic in the evenings.
Which content is being accessed There may be insufficient server capacity or other issues affecting a specific website or online game.

* NBN™ Speeds: Actual speeds may vary due to many factors including type/source of content being downloaded, hardware and software configuration, the number of users simultaneously using the network and performance of interconnecting infrastructure not operated by Australia Broadband. Devices connected by WiFi may experience slower speeds than those connected by Ethernet cable. The Basic speed option has an upload line speed of 1Mbps. The Boost speed option has upload speeds between 1Mbps and 5Mbps. The Max speed option has upload speeds between 1Mbps and 40Mbps.

No Lock-in Contract

All Australia Broadband NBN plans are no lock-in contract and you are permitted to terminate the service by giving us 1 month’s notice.

Prepayment

All Australia Broadband services are prepaid. You must pay the monthly recurring charges in advance. Payment options are Direct Debit or Credit/Debt Card.

If you order a Home Home Plan, you must make a prepayment for call usage that is not within the included value (if any) for the plan that you have acquired. Your initial prepayment will be $20. The prepayment will be debited from your nominated bank account or credit card. By acquiring and continuing to use the service, you agree to an automatic top up of your prepayment. The top up will occur when the amount of prepayment falls to below $10. When that happens, Australia Broadband will debit a sufficient amount from your bank account/credit card to restore your prepayment amount. If your usage is high, this can occur more than once per month. You authorise Australia Broadband to make such debits to your bank account or credit/debit card. If you do not exceed the Included Value and do not incur any charges that are excluded from your plan, there will be no automatic top-ups. We will send you messages about your usage and the debits during the month.

Your service will become inactive if our attempts to debit credit card/bank account to top up your prepayment are unsuccessful. If you do not use the prepayment, it will be forfeited to us when you cancel the service.

Got questions about nbn™?

If you already have your nbn™ Connection Box installed we’ll normally connect you within 2-7 business days. This means you’ll mostly likely receive your modem before your service is activated.

If you live in an nbn™ service area and need nbn™ Co equipment installed then you’ll need an nbn™ Co installation appointment. You’ll need to schedule an appointment after you join Australia Broadband. nbn™ Co will then send an nbn™ technician to undertake the work. It may take at least a few weeks to get your service activated due to factors such as the demand for nbn™ work in your area and nbn™ Co workforce availability.

Once your nbn™ Co installation has completed, we’ll send you an SMS normally within 2-7 business days to let you know that your NBN service is ready to use. Please wait for an SMS from us letting you know that your NBN service is activated and ready to use before plugging in your modem.

Note that these are usual timeframes only, we may be able to get you online sooner or your order may take a little longer than anticipated.

Yes, in most cases we can bring your existing telephone number over to the NBN. We understand that moving to a new network isn’t always easy so our technical gurus use a process called LNP (Local Number Portability in full) to remove the hassle. Just call our friendly Sales Team on 1300 023 354 to discuss further.
