Australia Broadband wants everyone to experience nbn the way its meant to be, super-fast and unlimited. That’s why Australia Broadband continuously monitors traffic and the overall performance of our network to prevent congestion. We’re also fair dinkum when it comes to speeds on the nbn by providing a minimum and a maximum typical evening speed.

Below is a quick summary of our average typical evening speeds. More detail speed information based on each nbn techncology type (FTTP, FTTN, FTTB, HFC and Fixed Wireless) is available at Internet Speeds.

 

Our NBN Basic (12/1) plan provides a typical evening speed between (7PM – 11PM) of 11 Mbps for downloading into the home.

A basic speed to cover the essentials. Ideal if you’re a small household with one or two devices connected. If you’re unsure which speed you need, it’s a great place to start. You can always upgrade later.

Our NBN Turbo (50/20) plan provides a typical evening speed between (7PM – 11PM) 42 Mbps for downloading into the home.

Perfect for families and households with multiple devices and broadband users. This plan provides extra speed to go around, so everyone is happy.

Our NBN Max (100/40) plan provides a typical evening speed between (7PM – 11PM) of 68 Mbps for downloading into the home.

Got the need for speed? This is our fastest option and is sure to impress. If you work/study from home or have a household full of gamers and media-buffs, this will be right up your alley.

Note: NBN Max (100/40) is not available to Fixed Wireless customers as the NBN Co will only support speeds of up to 25-50 Mbps.

Factors that may affect your NBN™ connection speed

We are continuously working to provide you with fast and simple nbn service, but sometimes other factors affect your speed. If you think your service isn’t as fast as it should be, check out your internet speed range based on your connection type below and get some useful tips on how to make the most of your internet connection at home.
nbn™ infrastructure For example, the length and quality of copper cabling used in nbn™ FTTN/FTTB has a significant impact on performance.
Coexistence period nbn™ FTTN/FTTB services are typically limited during the period they must share the same copper line as legacy non-nbn™ services.
Quality and capability of hardware This can include modems, WiFi routers and Ethernet or phone cables.
WiFi signal interference You can learn how to improve your home or office’s WiFi signal here.
Number of connected devices When too many devices share the same bandwidth, data flow is limited
nbn™ network congestion For example, when speeds slow due to congestion on the nbn™ network.
Which content is being accessed There may be insufficient server capacity or other issues affecting a specific website or online game.

No Lock-in Contract

All Australia Broadband NBN Plans are No Lock-in Contract and you are you cancel at any time.

 

No Connection or Hidden Fees

Australia Broadband does not charge any activation or setup fees and standard NBN Co installations are completed at no cost to you. With Australia Broadband, there are no setup fees, no plan change fees, no relocation fees (if you are moving to another nbn-ready area) and no worries.

 

Simple Billing

You’ll be billed/direct debited on or around the 1st day of each month for that month’s subscription. Our payment options are Visa and MasterCard.

 

Order Cancellation Policy

If you place an order with Australia Broadband and cancel the order due to change of mind, no refund will be provided if your order is in progress with the NBN Co. An order is deemed to be “in progress” once you have received an order number from Australia Broadband and your payment has been processed.

 

NBN Installation

After you have submitted your order, Australia Broadband will confirm if an installation appointment is needed. If an installation appointment is needed, Australia Broadband will organise this with the NBN Co and contact you with the appointment details. You or an authorised person over 18 years of age will be required to be at the premises on the day of the appointment.

IP Address

All NBN plans comes with Dynamic IP address. Static IP addresses are available for $10 extra per month. You can request a Static IP address after your internet service is connected by contacting Support.      

 

NBN Co charges may apply to some customers

Some homes may be subject to an NBN Co Non-Standard Installation or a NBN Co New Development Charge of $300.

If your home is subject to any of these NBN Co charges, we’ll let you know and get your permission before you’re charged.

NBN Co charges are charged by the NBN Co Ltd and not Australia Broadband. If you give permission to go ahead with the NBN Co non-standard or new development installation, Australia Broadband will pass this NBN Co charge onto to you at cost. 

 

Limitations and Availability

Australia Broadband services are residential grade services, may not be used for commercial purposes and is only available within NBN ready service area subject to nbn™ infrastructure availability at your premises. This service, including dialling 000, will not function in the event of a power failure or disruption or an internet outage. This service is not suitable if you have a serious illness or life threatening condition, if you require disability services, if you have a back-to-base home alarm system or if you require an uninterrupted phone line.

 

Fair Use Policy

All Australia Broadband services are subject to our Fair Go Policy. Prohibited Use includes using this service in a business or for any purpose or activity that is illegal, fraudulent or any other nature contrary to our Fair Go policy. Subscription Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your Australia Broadband subscription, we won’t refund any fees that you’ve already paid to us. After your order has been activated, you can cancel your Australia Broadband subscription by informing us before the end of the month. If you don’t inform us of your cancellation before the end of the month, you will be charged for another month’s subscription.

  • Do I need to pay any connection charges? 

    Does Australia Broadband charge any connection or installation fees?

    No, Australia Broadband does not charge any activation or setup fees and standard NBN Co installations are completed at no cost to you.

     

    Does the NBN Co charge any connection or installation fees?  

    A small number of homes may be subject to an NBN Co Non-Standard Installation or a NBN Co New Development Charge of $300. If your new address is subject to any of these NBN Co charges, we’ll let you know before the installation and get your permission before you’re charged.

     

  • How do I get connected to the nbn™ with Australia Broadband?

    The first step is to check your address on our address checker and find out if your address is nbn™ ready.  

     

    Your address is nbn™ ready

    If you’ve checked your address on our address checker and the results advised say that you’re address is ready to get nbn™, congratulations!

    All you’ll need to do is build your NBN Plan and sign up online. It takes less than 2 minutes and once your order has been accepted, we’ll look after the nbn™ arrangements. If it turns out you need an NBN Co technician to visit and install some nbn™ equipment, don’t worry – we’ll help organise this for you.

    With Australia Broadband, there are no contracts, no setup fees, no plan change fees, no relocation fees and no worries. Just fast, simple & congestion free nbn™. You can also give one of our friendly nbn™ experts a call on 1300 NBN AUSTRALIA BROADBAND (1300 023 354).

     

    Your address is not nbn™ ready

    If your address is not nbn™ ready, you can’t order an nbn™ service. If your address will be ready within 3 months, we’ll let you know and give you the option to pre-order your nbn™ subscription. You can also check out our Coverage Map which is automatically updated with the latest information available from NBN Co. Once your address is nbn™ ready, you can order your nbn™ service online with Australia Broadband or if you have submited a pre-order, we’ll connect you as soon as your address is ready.

     

  • How can I pre-order nbn™ at my address with Australia Broadband?

    Australia Broadband’s NBN pre-order allows you to pick out your Australia Broadband NBN Plan and lodge your order in advance so that as soon as nbn™ is available at your address, we can get the ball rolling on your connection ASAP. 

    Whenever you check an address on our website, it will automatically be checked against the current estimated NBN™ rollout plan. If that check indicates that your address should be ready to receive an nbn™ service within the next 3 months, then you’ll be able to pre-order a Australia Broadband NBN Plan.

    Please keep in mind that the nbn™ rollout plan is subject to change as the NBN Co Ltd may make adjustments to the ready for service schedule. To see how the nbn™ rollout is going in your neighbourhood, you can also check your address on the nbn™ website.

     

    Filling out an NBN pre-order is exactly like any other nbn™ order. You’ll need to build your NBN Plan, provide your current contract information, installation address and valid payment details. Before we order your nbn™ subscription, we will either process the modem fee (if you opt to purchase our modem) or the 1st month plan fee (if you opt to BYO modem) upfront and in advance. Upfront payment is required to process any Australia Broadband NBN order.

    Once your pre-order is lodged, you’ll receive an order number on-screen and in a confirmation SMS to the mobile that you supplied in your pre-order. You’ll need this order number to check on the status of your pre-order, so it’s important to keep it in a safe place.

     

    Yes, we will either process the modem fee (if you opt to purchase our modem) or the 1st month plan fee (if you opt to BYO modem) upfront and in advance. Upfront payment is required to process any Australia Broadband NBN order or pre-order.

     

    What should I do if I need to change or cancel my NBN pre-order?

    Just give us a call on 1300 023 354 and we’ll be happy to help. Please make sure that you have your order number handy – we’ll need this to identify your NBN pre-order. 

    You can cancel your NBN Pre-order at any time as long as we have not submited your order to the NBN Co. If we have not processed your order or your address is not ready for service, Australia Broadband will refund any initial payment you have made back to your credit or debit card within 2-3 business days of your NBN Pre-order cancellation.

     

    We’ll keep your pre-order ‘frozen’ until we receive confirmation from the NBN Co that it’s possible to connect an nbn™ service to your nominated address. As soon as we get the green light, we’ll get started on your order so you can be connected to the nbn™ as soon as possible. 

     

  • How long will it take to get my Australia Broadband on the nbn™ connected?

    The connection time frame will depends whether or not your new address has been connected to the nbn™ previously. 

     

    My new home has previously been connected to the nbn™ 

    If your new home has been previously connected to the nbn™, we’ll normally activate your Australia Broadband nbn™ service typically within 2-5 days. This may take longer if the former tenant or owner did not disconnect their nbn™ service before you moved in. 

     

    It is the first time my new home is connecting to the to the nbn™

    If it is the first time your new home is connecting to the nbn network, we’ll arrange the first available appointment with NBN Co for an NBN Co technician to connect your nbn™ service. Typically, new nbn™ connections are completed by the NBN Co within 5-20 business days. This varies depending on your nbn™ connection type as well as the availability of the NBN Co technicians in your area.

    We will let you know if you need an appointment after we have submited your order to the NBN Co. 

     

    Everything else

    NBN Co Timeframes: Please note that these are usual timeframes only. We may be able to get you online sooner or your order may take a little longer than anticipated. While Australia Broadband will always do its best to get you connected as soon as possible, it is the NBN Co (or its third party contractor) that performs all nbn™ connections and installations across Australia, therefore connection timeframes are determined solely by the NBN Co Ltd.

    NBN Co Technicians: Sometimes when an NBN Co technician attempts to connect your service they might discover that the job will require more work than expected and they may not be able to complete all the work on the day. Sometimes NBN Co technicians can’t make it to your premises on the agreed day due to weather conditions or other unforeseen events. If this happens, we’ll keep you updated as we work with the NBN Co to complete your connection.

     

  • Do I need a phone line to get nbn™ connected?

    Do I need a phone line to get Australia Broadband Internet on the nbn™?

    No, you do not need an active phone line to get an internet service on the nbn™. 

    Unlike ADSL, the nbn™ does not require you to have an active landline. Most ADSL customers only have a phone line so they can have an internet connection. With the nbn™, the internet service is connected first and you have the option to use your mobile or if you want to retain your home phone number or use a traditional home phone service, you’ll need subscribe to a Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) phone service.

     

    What do most nbn™ customers do for a phone service?

    Most nbn™ customers choose to have an internet only nbn™ service and use their mobile for their phone service.  

    On the nbn™, you can also use Voice over IP (VoIP) programs or apps like Skype, Apple’s FaceTime (through Macs, iPads, iPhone and iWatch), Google Hangouts, Vonage and many more. Many VoIP service are free when you call another VoIP services using the internet. 

    To keep things simple, Australia Broadband recommends you use the nbn™ for internet only, choose a mobile provider with unlimited calls and use Skype to make international calls to friends and family for free.

     

    Can Australia Broadband provide a phone service?

    If you want to retain your existing phone number or use a home phone service, Australia Broadband can provide you a VoIP service. It works just like your normal landline, and we can even transfer your current phone number. To sign up for Australia Broadband VoIP, you’ll need a Australia Broadband NBN subscription. You’ll also need a nbn compatible Wi-Fi modem from Australia Broadband so we can ensure you have a reliable and quality VoIP connection.

    Our VoIP Plans start at only $10 a month with all local and national calls completely free. You’ll also get great call rates to mobiles and international numbers.

     

    Can I use my own BYO modem with Australia Broadband VoIP?

    Yes, you can use your own BYO modem on Australia Broadband VoIP. You’ll need an nbn compatible modem to connect to the nbn. Your modem also must be VoIP capable. 

    To keep things simple, we recommend you purchase an nbn compatible Wi-Fi modem from Australia Broadband. All modem purchased from Australia Broadband are VoIP capable, fully supported, include a 12-month manufacture warranty and are auto-configured with your Australia Broadband NBN and VoIP setting to allow you to plug and play.   

    If you want to use your own nbn™ and VoIP compatible modem with Australia Broadband VoIP, you will need to sign up online and subscribe to a Australia Broadband NBN internet only plan.

    Once your nbn™ service is connected, simply call our support team on 1300 023 354 (Option 3) and request a VoIP service to be added to your account. Normally, your VoIP service will be activated and ready within 1 day for a new number. If you are transferring an existing active phone number, normally it takes up to 7 days to transfer your number to Australia Broadband, but sometime it can take up to 20 business days. In the meantime, we can allocate a temporary number if you wish to make calls in the meantime.     

     

    Do I have to pay phone line rental on my NBN™ plan?

    No, as you do not need an active phone line to get an internet service on the nbn™, you do not have to pay any line rental.
